Ghana SHS Rankings: St James Seminary tops all; Presec, Pojoss, Prempeh not even in top 10

St James' Seminary was ranked first, Opoku Ware School (OWASS) came in second-place, in third-place is Wesley Girls’ High School, while the Holy Child School and Adisadel College were ranked fourth and fifth respectively.

The St James’ Seminary and Senior High School (SHS) in Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region has once again emerged as the best in Ghana after topping in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

This is the fifth time in a row that the school has topped the WASSCE for school candidates in the country.

The ranking was done by the Ministry of Education according to the performance of senior schools in the WASSCE.

A total of 672 senior high schools were ranked, covering a period of four years (between 2013 and 2017).
Students of the St James’ Seminary and SHS had an average performance of 98.8 per cent during the said period.

Opoku Ware School (OWASS) in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region came in second place with an average of 88.2 per cent.

Wesley Girls’ High School (Wey Gey Hey) place third in Cape Coast in the Central Region, while the Holy Child School and Adisadel College were ranked fourth and fifth respectively.

St Peter’s SHS, St Augustine’s College, Notre Dame Seminary/SHS, St Rose’s SHS and St Louis SHS complete the top 10 in that order.

Biggest shock, however, is that popular schools like Mfantsipim School (14), Presbyterian Boys SHS, Legon (15), Prempeh College (16) and Pope John SHS (17) were not even in the top 10.

Therefore, other popular schools like Bishop Herman, Achimota, Archbishop Porter Girls, Mfantsiman Girls and St Thomas Aquinas, placed 26th, 29th, 32nd, 39th, 45th respectively.
